David Beckham is the best known soccer player - or footballer as they call them in Britain - in the world, and the highest paid as well.
But that's only half the story, as his good looks and being so photogenic allows him to be a significant brand advertisers and marketers seek after, and also a force in the male fashion industry.
His image is everywhere, and his name ubiquitous.
His wife, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, is no slouch in her own right, as she has a solid fan base from her music years, and is also kept busy with the couple's three children.
Her connection to the entertainment industry offers David and the couple an extended fan base which has helped David extend his brand far beyond sports.
Beckham has worked for a number of charities over the years, inlcuding UNICEF, Malaria No More and MLS W.O.R.K.S.
Because Beckham goes far beyond the sporting world, it's definitely going to be interesting to see which direction he takes in a few years after his soccer career is over.
I don't think that'll be the end of the Beckham brand.
